The Brain/Gut Connection:Peachtree Road United Methodist Church

Gut Feelings: Integrative Nutrition

October 27 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm in Heritage Hall at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church

Gut Feelings: Using Integrative Nutrition to Heal from the Bottom Up
Mary Virginia Coffman, MSW, MS, CNS, LDN, LN

The news cycle and plenty of advertising have made it clear that digestive health and food choices are key to overall health. But did you know that what happens in your digestive system is critical to your mood, metabolic health, and brain health? Are you familiar with the food choices and habits of being that contribute to an improved healthspan?

Let’s cut through the hype about food, nutrition, and lifestyle habits and get to the heart of what actually works. Mary Virginia will design an interactive roadmap that will guide you into improved mental and physical health.

Here are some questions Mary Virginia will address:
What food and lifestyle choices will support a balanced mood, a clear head, connective thinking, and focus?
How can gut and metabolic health protect my brain?
What will help me build stress resilience?
What do I need to know in order to assess my own experiences and learn what works best for me?

Do you have a loved one with a mental health diagnosis? You are not alone. The National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) working with the One Lamb Initiative provides a research-based class for family members of those with mental health conditions in a non threatening, anonymous setting here at PRUMC at no charge. The next class starts July 28th continuing for 8 weeks, ending September 22 from 2-4:30PM on Sunday afternoons. In this class you will learn about the various diagnoses, medications, and current treatment options, how the brain actually works, crisis management, support resources to help your loved one, effective communication, how to work with therapists and psychiatrists, self care for you, and much more. You will also meet others experiencing the same grief, frustration and loneliness as you are and will build lasting friendships. This class is limited to 24 participants.
